In this theme, am I able to 'Add media' in text areas? Allowing me to add pictures in with the text?

Yes, with some basic knowledge of HTML / CSS.

Ok that's ok for me, but not my client. I can't ask the to learn to code to enable them to add pictures. The ability to use the 'Add media' button, to make it easy would be very helpful.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestion! Maybe I'll create a WordPress version of the template in the future.
